Hi! I'm January James. Unfortunately, I wasn't born with this fabulous name - it's my professional author name - and I won't be showing my face just yet, for the simple reason I write sex scenes, and I find it a bit squirmy to think people are getting a glimpse of my saucy thoughts! But here is a bit about my background and what led me to writing the Square Mile series and, more specifically, A Class Act.
I've always worked in marketing and communications for big consumer brands. And, for the most part, I've loved it. I've been lucky enough to thrive in some incredibly fast-paced, adrenalin-fuelled businesses alongside gorgeous, ambitious and highly intelligent women and these women are the inspiration for my books. Ladies, these are for you!
A Class Act is set in the thrilling world of the London start-up scene. Start-ups, for me, are innovative (sometimes genius) ideas being brought to life by confident, creative and charismatic people. Often the teams behind start-ups work around the clock trying new ideas, hustling, wooing potential investors and having a great time doing it. I knew I wanted to write a story about heightened lust and forbidden romance, and this dynamic, competitive, sky's-the-limit industry felt like the most exciting place to base it.
These days I prefer the (slightly) slower pace of being a wife, mummy and writer but I still love a good workplace love story, which is why I wrote one! And there are more to follow ...
So that's just a little bit about me. I can't wait for you to read my debut romance novel, A Class Act. It launches 1 July.
